We can see clearly now that Nina Dobrev has explained why she decided to leave Vampire Diaries before it ended.
Everything just makes sense now.
Although Nina’s decision to leave Vampire Diaries after the 6th season came as a shock to many, it was something she knew she wanted to do from the very beginning. Sure, we all missed Elena, but hey, Nina totally had a good reason for not continuing with the show.
Nina revealed to harper by Harper’s Bazaar that leaving Vampire Diaries was QUOTE, “The plan from the get-go. If anything, the fact that [leaving] terrified me drove me even more. I needed to feel that fear of ‘Oh my God, what if I never get a job again? That just made me want to work five times as hard to make sure that didn’t happen.”
It sounds like she just didn’t want to stay in her comfortable little bubble and that has definitely worked out in her favor. Since her departure from the show, Nina managed to add a bunch of movie and TV show credits to her growing IMDB page. While these roles were few and far in between, Nina said it was all the result of being “picky” with the parts offered to her.
Nina said QUOTE, “The things I want to do aren’t necessarily the things that are expected of me. I don’t want to play a teenager anymore. I want to play adult roles and be challenged and work with great filmmakers and tell incredible stories, and that has meant being really picky.”
It make take her a while to find the next perfect role, but hey, anything to stay true to yourself, right?
