In his memoir, “You Gotta Want It”, that was released last year, Jake told the story of how he reached out to Ethan and Grayson about coming to stay with him in L.A. in hopes of the Twins becoming famous. Jake wrote that in their visit the trio created tons of videos, tagged each other in pictures and tweeted back in forth, which he claims resulted in their success saying “Their followers on Vine went up tenfold, and they saw similar increases on Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. I felt like I’d created a secret formula in my basement. My experiment worked!”
A few years down the road Jake apparently offered the Dolan twins spots in Team 10, which they turned down. Jake said it caused a riff in their friendship and compared the situation to when Jay Z tried to sign Lil Wayne to his management company.
This obviously did not go over well with fans of both the Dolan twins and Jake. One side was mad that Jake was basically taking credit for the Dolan twins and the other side was mad at Ethan and Grayson for ditching Jake after they got what they wanted.
After months of questioning, Ethan and Grayson are breaking their silence on the subject. In a sit-down honest interview with Caspar Lee, the twins answer some of our biggest questions. Caspar asks them everything from how they got started on Vine to what life is like for them now.
The boys got straight to the point saying “Jake never tried to sign us. There’s something in his book that says something how he, like we were his ‘test experiments’ and he flew us out to L.A. — which he didn’t. He did let us stay with him and we made content with him and all that stuff. We had fun. Jake was a great friend of ours and I still believe the kid is a good person, deep down.”
Ethan and Grayson didn’t hold back telling their side of the story, but they did make it a point to appreciate the fact that they did benefit from hanging out with the Paul brothers. “Jake was saying that he blew us up. Him and Logan blew us up,” the boys shared. “We did come out. Jake was very kind and let us stay at his place. He showed us the ropes. I remember him showing me how to edit Vines and that was amazing…. Our videos weren’t doing that far off from each other to begin with,” they continued. “It wasn’t like we were just random kids that Jake found that he was like, ‘You guys, come on. I have an idea.’ We were all creators. The vibe wasn’t ‘I’m going to blow you up.'”
As happy as we are that Ethan and Grayson got real in the 36-minute long interview, it honestly just leave us with even more questions! Who is lying and who is telling the truth?
