Halsey performed “Bad At Love” on Good Morning America this morning but later took to social media to voice her concerns about the lack of female representation in the AMA nominations. Granted, Halsey IS nominated this year so this isn’t a case of “I’m complaining because I’m bitter about being left out” because that isn’t the case at all. In fact, she tweeted QUOTE – “Really honored to have received an @AMAs nomination but really disappointed to hear near exclusively male names… such a missed opportunity. So many incredible female artists have released this year. Hoping the coming award shows give them the credit that is due to them.”
Halsey is referring to the fact that there are zero female nominees in some of the major categories including Video of the Year, Tour of the Year, and Artist of the Year. For video of the year the nominees are Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee for Despacito, Bruno Mars for That’s What I Like, and Ed Sheeran for Shape of You. The three nominees for Tour of the year include Garth Brooks, Coldplay, and U2. While the nominees for Artist of the year are The Chainsmokers, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, and Ed Sheeran.
So what gives AMAs? There were definitely plenty of awesome female artists so not sure what the lack of nominations is all about but I want to hear what you guys think so sound off in the comment section below, don’t forget to subscribe and then click right over here for the full list of nominations.
