Selena Gomez is facing some backlash from the internet for signing on to star in a controversial Woody Allen film. Today’s episode is presented by Lyft. It matters how you get there. Download and ride today.

Given that Woody Allen has a bit of a scandalous reputation and in the midst of all the Harvey Weinstein drama, people aren’t too happy about Selena working with Allen.

Selena Gomez is currently filming a new Woody Allen movie and according to Page Six, the film tells the story of a middle aged married man who partakes in several affairs with younger women. Allegedly in one particular scene, the middle aged man played by Jude Law is accused by his wife of having sex with a 15 year old girl played by Elle Fanning, but the plot twist is that she’s actually 21. Currently, very little is known about the premise of the film that will also star Suki Waterhouse, Rebecca Hall, and Timothee Chalamet but many have drawn comparisons to Woody Allen’s 1979 romantic comedy called Manhattan that also involved an older man in a relationship with a much younger woman.
The main reason why people are giving side eye to Selena for signing on to work with Allen is because when he was married to Mia Farrow he was later accused by his son of abusing his daughter Dylan who was seven years old at the time. However the case against Woody was closed because no credible evidence was found. But then more eyebrows were raised when he ended up marrying his adopted daughter. Then factor in all of the news that has come out about Harvey Weinstein and you have your reason why people are upset about Selena’s recent career move.
Twitter was filled with reactions with one person tweeting – “So you mean to tell me that selena gomez made a show to spread awareness for sexual assault and is now working with woody allen?” However others came to her defense with one person writing – “Selena’s supporting Woody’s movie, not him as a person. We all know she would never support sexual assault.” In case you were confused, by “spreading awareness for sexual assault” those tweets are referring to Selena’s show, 13 Reasons Why that involves a serial offender. Selena is not the first actress who has been criticized for working with Allen, Kate Winslet also received backlash, but I’m curious to hear what you guys think so let me know in the comment section and don’t forget to subscribe.
