Is Taylor totally calling out Kim Kardashian and Kanye West and what do the words in the alley really mean?
Taylor Swift just dropped her second music video off her new album Reputation and we weren’t ready for it!
When Taylor uploaded teaser clips announcing the music video for her single Ready For It, we weren’t really sure what to expect. There were cyborgs and flashing eyes and nude robot suits, and we didn’t know how it was all going to tie together, but now that we’ve seen the whole video, everything is making sense.
Director Joseph Kahn, who also directed Taylor’s Blank Space, Bad Blood, Wildest Dreams, Out of the Woods and Look What You Made Me Do videos helped bring this song to life, too! Joseph even tweeted out that the video is an homage to anime and sci-fi, and we think he hit the nail on the head with that description!
Obviously fans are already watching the music video for the hundredth time in slow motion to spot every secret message that is hidden in the background. We would be lying if we said that we weren’t doing the same!
It’s a known fact that this new era of Taylor is all about reclaiming how she is perceived in the media and letting the true taylor be seen. This is especially obvious when the Taylor that is trapped in a cage breaks free and destroys the robot Taylor. We can’t be the only ones who got chills during that moment, right?
As for the anime homage, fans were quick to translate the Chinese symbols that were painted on the alley in graffiti and revealed that they said future, year of snake, and reputation. As well as the names Joseph and Eddy. Joseph is obviously referring to the director, but we’re not entirely sure who this Eddy is. Maybe it’s a subtle hint that there could be an Ed Sheeran collab on the album!
Taylor is so extra and over the top in the absolute best way, because there are tons of secrets hidden in the graffiti. In the very first frame, you can see ‘89/’91 on the wall, which so happens to be the birth year of Taylor and her boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
As Taylor is walking down the alley, fans also spotted tons of words that we all think is song titles from Reputation. You can see All Eyes on Us, UR Gorgeous, This Is Enough, I Love You in Secret, 13.
Although we don’t know exactly what they mean, we do know we’re excited.
We can’t NOT bring up the Taylor and Kimye feud because fans are spotting yet another potential reference. When Taylor is making her way up the stairs, she stops on a platform that has the words QUOTE “they’re burning all the witches” painted on it. Tay then throws her arms out and is struck by lightning.
Fans think that Taylor is painting herself as a witch who Kim and Kanye were chasing down in a witch hunt.
We’re not exactly sold on that theory but we’ve learned to expect the unexpected from Taylor! If you need us, we’ll be watching the music video on repeat for the rest of the day.
Are you loving this music video and what hidden messages have you found? Let us know in the comments below! I’m Miriam Isa, thanks for tuning in!
