American Woman Wins NYC Marathon For FIRST Time In 40 Years

Major props are in order for Shalane Flanagan who came in first place in the New York City marathon in the women’s race. FYI – a Kenyan man by the name of Geoffrey Kam-wor-or took the men’s title in a cool 2 hours, 10 minutes and 53 seconds. Again, totally casual. It should be noted that our girl Shalane nabbed the first place medal running the race in 2 hours, 26 minutes and 53 seconds. Not kidding it took me that long to walk 3 miles to Olive Garden last night and I was pretty stoked…so I think this woman is super human and I’m totally into it. She’s been working tireless to achieve this goal. She came in second place at the 2010 NYC Maraton and was injured recently and unable to even compete at this years Boston Marathon. IT was her injury that Shalane credits with getting her to where she is though – she said QUOTE: I think it was a blessing that I got injured this past winter and I came here full of energy and motivation and desire to put on the best performance of my life.
According to reports, Shalane, who FYI is 36 years old (UM killing it so hardcore) took her victory when she separated from all the other runners with 3 miles left and as she neared the finish line you could hear audibly screen out “F – YES!” but like the not PG version of that phrase if you know what I mean.
Our major congrats go out to this American woman. What a bad-ass! Hit the comment to join the convo and if you’re suddenly feeling inspired to take up running let me know.
