Kim Kardashian came under fire recently for one of her MANY Halloween Costumes… and now, she’s apologizing!
Kim Kardashian came to slay this Halloween, staying on theme by dressing up as a different musical legend every night… and we LOVED it!
Kim paid homage to several of her idols all Halloweekend long, including Cher, Madonna, Selena Quintanilla and more. But one costume in particular landed her in hot water, which was when she channeled the late ‘90s R&B singer, Aaliyah.
Kim’s recreation of the ‘90s look was pretty spot on, copying even the most minor details from Aaliyah’s look in her “Try Again” music video. The costume included black leather pants, a bejeweled bra, and a matching choker necklace to tie it all together.
But, as thorough as the costume was, people on Twitter weren’t having it. Many were quick to jump down Kim’s throat, calling the costume insensitive and racist. One Twitter user even wrote, QUOTE, “Legend or not, Aaliyah is a black woman and you’re not. It’s offensive and you shouldn’t push this limit, but ok…” With another adding, “Kim Kardashian as Aaliyah? It’s a no.”
TBH, we didn’t even think Kim would address this controversy at all, but surprisingly, she responded to the controversy via her website, saying, QUOTE, “Aaliyah was such an amazing singer and she will forever be a music legend. I saw online that some people thought my costume was in poor taste and I am truly sorry if that offended anyone.” After the apology, she explained, QUOTE, “We don’t see color in my home. We were paying homage to the people and artists we love and respect—it’s that simple!”
So what do you guys think? Did Kim’s costume cross a line and should she have apologized for it? Let us know in the comments and then click to the left to see Kim COMPLETELY gush over Jelena! Thanks for watching Clevver News, I’m your host Renee Shafii, and I’ll see you next time!
